After the Eisteddfod on Tuesday I had a bit of time to kill in town so I thought I would give a second-hand shop a go for some suitcases. I couldn't see anything in the shop but I thought I'd ask if there was anything out the back........so so glad I asked!
My eyes lit up when I saw two huge trunks and some old dusty suitcases, the second trunk was a little too damaged for what I wanted and one of the suitcases was a bit too modern, but the rest were perfect and just $50 for the lot!
I even got a bit of history on the trunk, apparently it belonged to a local family and they used it when they migrated to Australia in 1947. The trunk has their name and SYDNEY painted on top.........can you imagine putting all your belongings into something like this and setting sail for a new life?
They were all a bit dusty and needed a bit of airing, so I gave them all a bath ready to add to my now growing collection.
If you want to see some more vintage goodness make sure you go and visit Sophie and her Flea Market Finds.
Hope you are having a great weekend.

I am so envious!!! The look SENSATIONAL! Congratulations on such a great find.
That bottom photograph makes me laugh - but I totally want them all too!
I am jealous I think, yes, jealousy. Although I know they will be looked after so well at your place - but if you ever can't handle their dusting etc email me ad I'll come and take them off your hands hehe.
I think the green eyed monster is running rampant. Good on you!!! (But I wish it were me whoowned them) xxNick
I have suitcase envy for sure! I love them all - well done - it was definitely meant to be. I scored a great red vintage suitcase during a hard rubbish week in my area - don't you just love rescuing something full of history!
I keep looking for suitcases, but I am never finding.... Great find!
Looks like you're on your way to a great collection. Last year I picked up 3 suitcases when i was going through some garage sales. The largest one was kitted out as a travelling salesmans case. It had sections for a comb, brush etc. I didn't pick it up initially but went back after I jumped in the car and thought if I could spare the $5 asking price.
oooo i am so envious! They are just what i've been looking for! Brilliant finds!!!!!!!!!!!
Who would give that trunk away with that kinda history!!!! But their loss is your gain!!!! I can just see your new house with a suitcase wall rather than the brick wall you wanted!!!
I love your dream ... it's amazing. i had to laugh. the trunk is especially amazing and the price so good! i do love a vintage bargain.
My Flea Market Find
Wow, they are lovely!xx
What a fantastic buy and the history of the family immigrating is just amazing. I love buying pieces when they come with a story. Lucky you! No wonder you were busting to tell us.
They look great stacked together and to have some provenance on the trunk is amazing. Migrants were certainly brave weren't they?!
Total score. Just a question, does your husband love them too or does he know just not to bother asking/ complaining?? Love Posie
I have a few vintage suitcases myself. They are SO appealing. My husband would send me packing with my suitcases):)if I had as many as the last pic! TOO FUNNY!
Thanks for sharing your great finds!
Blessings!
